StarkNet is releasing Cairo 1.0 as an open source language as a first step towards community management. To scale effectively, StarkNet prioritizes scalability over comprehensibility and transparency.

It is currently working on releasing the code that uses its technology to the public. The group made this decision in a tweet stating the following:

Prioritizing scalability

In 2020, StarkWare, a company specializing in creating web software, released a Turing-complete programming language with verifiable computation. Since Cairo was originally designed as an assembly language, it has gradually become more expressive over time. Cairo Project released Cairo 1.0 almost two months agowhich addressed a number of problems that currently exist.

As part of the above goals, StarkWare has reached its first milestone today by moving development to a public repository and releasing Cairo 1.0 as open source!

To compile and run simple Cairo 1.0 programs for the first time, developers can now compile and run them. Using Cairo 1.0 at this stage allows developers to explore new features and implementing them on StarkNet as soon as possible, even if they are unable to implement them at this point.

The ability to compile and run Cairo’s native base programs is currently available to you. There are still several syntax/language improvements that need to be made, however, this will allow users to adapt to Cairo 1.0 and enjoy updates as they become available.

As a result of Cairo 1.0 blockchain developers can write and deploy smart contracts on StarkNet once it’s put into production, according to StarkWare’s Medium post.

In addition to this, StarkWare has discovered that Cairo 1.0 has done every calculation provably, which allows StarkNet’s censorship-resistant properties to be confirmed; In addition, it is better able to handle denial of service attacks because Cairo 1.0 makes all calculations provable.

STARK, StarkWare’s proprietary technology stack, is currently used to power several Web3 projects, notably dYdX, the decentralized exchange (DEX) platform migrating to Cosmos, and Immutable X and Celer Network, the blockchain interoperability protocol.

The Cairo Compiler report, scheduled for release early next quarter, states that the Cairo Compiler’s primary goal is to support the StarkNet functionality that was already available in Cairo 1.0, which is supported in the first version of the Cairo Compiler. .

In addition, the team is developing the original StarkNet gas concept as well as extensions to the Cairo 1.0 compiler, as well as more extensions such as loops, new library functions, and the ability to define a native StarkNet gas concept.
