Earlier today, September 22, Norwegian company Opera announced plans to add support for the new blockchain to its crypto browser. Originally launched in January, the browser currently supports eight different chains with support for several different types of coins and tokens, and the latest addition – Elrond – is its ninth supported blockchain.

Opera decides to add Elrond support

According to the company’s announcement, the world’s first Web3-centric browser, Opera Crypto Browser, will expand its “already strong web suite” by integrating the Elrond blockchain. The browser, which already supports dApps and a non-releasable wallet, has chosen Elrond for several features that make the project an excellent choice, such as high scalability, high speeds, top-notch security for decentralized applications, and even enterprise use. cases.

The release further added that the rollout is planned for the end of the year, and after that users will be able to send and receive Elrond’s native cryptocurrency, the EGLD token. As with other blockchains and their tokens, Opera’s built-in crypto wallet is used to tap into the blockchain, where users can also access any dApp running on Elrond’s network.

This includes the global and automated trading dApp Maiar Exchange, numerous P2E games and more – all without a third-party wallet or other browser extensions.

Benefits of Elrond integration

Opera’s Head of Crypto Ecosystem, Susie Batt, stated that the seamless integration of the Elrond blockchain would further expand the already wide range of crypto-centric services available to browser users. The interoperability provided by the crypto industry is becoming increasingly important for any project aspiring to Web3, and Opera is excited to participate in its own way by adding yet another thread to its browser.

Elrond further advances this goal as an “internet-wide blockchain” focused on high transaction speeds, security, accessibility and user experience. Thanks to its sharing algorithm, it can share complex calculations between different nodes, which increases speed and reduces the time needed to process transactions. Although this concept has spread to several other networks since the launch of Elrond in 2020, this project is the first chain to include all three aspects of sharing – space, network and events – at the same time.

Elrond’s own CEO Beniamin Mincu also commented on the change by stating that Elrond’s new approach to consensus and fragmentation enables excellent performance. That’s why Opera chose it, and the project wants to join the browser’s large user base and offer affordable, fast transactions.

The integration also allows Opera users who have never used cryptocurrency before to have a great initial experience if they choose to use Elrond and its native token, dApps and other products.
