Ford Motor Gears Up For The Metaverse With Trademarks For Virtual Cars

Ford Motor, the world-renowned US automaker, is moving towards fungible tokens and metaverses as it files 19 trademark applications for its American car brands with the US Patent and Trade Office (USPTO).
Ford dived into the metaverse and the NFT or Web3 ecosystem after the company, led by Ford Motor CEO Jim Farley and Ford CEO Bill Ford, has faced mass layoffs in an effort to cut company costs in what appeared to be a form of corporate reorientation.
Ford Motor brings digital products, entertainment services to the market
Based on the filed documents, Ford plans to offer SUVs, vans, cars, and trucks as downloadable text, artwork, video, and audio files in NFT format.
In addition, Ford Motor also has virtual goods that are downloadable and mainly used in virtual worlds, such as cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, equipment or clothing, as well as vehicle accessories and parts.

The company is also planning to host online virtual car shows through Augment Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). BBased on the submitted trademarks, Ford Motor can offer NFTs on a specific online marketplace, allowing the company to sell virtual cars and apparel under Ford, Troller, and Lincoln.
USPTO-licensed trademark attorney Mike Kondoudis announced in a Twitter post Wednesday that Ford Motor has filed 19 trademark applications covering brands under its wing, including the Lincoln, Mustang, Explorer, Bronco and F-150 Lighting; to name a few.
Ford follows the lead of Chevy, Lambo and Bentley
Ford Motor appears to be following the lead of other American auto giants like Chevrolet, which hosted a June 2022 NFT event featuring a lime green Corvette Z06 NFT that also comes with a free 2023 Corvette Z06, physical or actual vehicle.
The Chevrolet auction was launched on SuperRare, a famous NFT marketplace, with an Opening Bid of ETH 206. Despite Chevrolet’s aggressive marketing and promotion, the auction saw crickets or zero bids.
In the past, luxury car brands such as Lamborghini and Bentley have already launched their respective NFT collectibles. Other car brands such as Hyundai, Toyota and Nissan have also announced plans to join the metaverse and NFT space.
