MetaMask wallet may share your IP address with its owners
Crypto Snooper, an anonymous cryptocurrency researcher at the Crawlie Alpha project, spotted a major update to ConsenSys’ privacy policies. ConsenSys is the development studio for MetaMask and other Ethereum-centric products.

According to a new version of the document, Infura, ConsenSys soultion’s blockchain infrastructure provider, collects the IP addresses and Ethereum (ETH) wallet addresses of the majority of MetaMask users.
Namely, all MetaMask clients using Infura as their default procedure call (RPC) provider are tracked by ConsenSys’ Infura.
This update drew a lot of criticism from cryptocurrency enthusiasts in various segments of the Ethereum and EVM ecosystems, as on-chain non-permanent wallets are generally promoted as a way to maximize user privacy and avoid data collection by companies and services.
Here’s how you can avoid tracking
The analyst suggests solutions to avoid sharing your IP address and Ethereum (ETH) wallet information with Infura. First, MetaMask allows users to change their RPC provider, the service that facilitates the connection between the blockchain and the wallet.
A user can receive an API endpoint from a third-party provider and select it as a custom RPC for the main and test network of Ethereum (ETH) or another EVM-enabled network.
Users can also switch to other wallets that do not track IP addresses or other information.
As U.Today has previously covered, scammers occasionally launch campaigns on Twitter to promote fake air suits of non-existent MetaMask admin credentials.
