The era of IPv6 is upon us and as the world adopts this new and advanced version of the Internet, India has emerged as the global leader in IPv6 adoption. Dr. Satya Gupta, Chairman, Bharat IPv6 Forum, believes that India will strengthen its position as a global IPv6 leader, bolstered by enabling regulations and the world’s second largest population.

Gupta, who is also the chairman of the Blockchain Productivity Forum, was at the Enterprise Utility Blockchain Summit (EUBS) in Bangalore, where he shared the stage with Dr. Craig Wright and Latif Ladid.

Speaking to CoinGeek’s Claire Celdran, Gupta noted that India’s rise as an IPv6 superpower is the result of positive regulations, private sector initiatives and a large population. The Indian government has already set aggressive targets for every telecom and internet operator to achieve universal IPv6 connectivity. In addition, the government has launched educational initiatives to promote the adoption of IPv6 across India.

In an even more ambitious move, the Indian government is considering setting up a DNS root server to better serve the 1.4 billion Indians. There are currently only 13 DNS root servers worldwide due to Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4) limitations. Of the 13, 10 are in the US and two in Europe, with APAC getting just one despite having more than 60 percent of the world’s population, which Gupta thinks is unfair. IPv6 finally fixes this flaw, he says.

Gupta further noted that blockchain and IPv6 are a perfect match. With no address restrictions, every device can be directly connected to the Internet, and together with an infinitely scalable blockchain network, IPv6 and Bitcoin SV can finally restore the original end-to-end view of the Internet.

“These two next-generation technologies are a good match – Bitcoin SV and IPv6,” Gupta noted.
