Italian football club AC Milan has announced a non-fungible token (NFT) partnership with web3 game MonkeyLeague.
MonkeyLeague has become AC Milan’s new NFT gaming partner
As revealed in a post on the club’s website, AC Milan and MonekyLeague plan to jointly create various non-exchangeable tokens as part of the agreement.
AC Milan is an Italian football club with one of the richest histories in Europe. The team is currently the reigning champion of Serie A, the country’s highest league division.
“We are excited to start this partnership with MonkeyLeague, the collaboration will allow us to strengthen our position in the field of digital innovation,” said the Italian club’s Chief Revenue Officer Casper Stylsvig.
“We are particularly proud to be the first football club to partner with MonkeyLeague to bring this game to our fans around the world and offer them an innovative new way to engage with their favorite team.”
MonkeyLeague is a web3 soccer game where users build and manage teams of NFT-based characters and compete against other players to rise higher in the league ranks.
The game is built on the Solana blockchain and uses its own native MonkeyBucks token for the in-game economy.
As part of the NFT gaming partnership, MonkeyLeague will work closely with the football club to create exclusive AC Milan-themed “game resources, wearables, special game tournaments, co-marketing events and many other exciting initiatives such as playtesting of the club’s players. game.”
The first batch of these collectibles is scheduled to be released on October 6th on the MagicEden marketplace, where the tokens will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Oren Langberg, Marketing and Partnerships Manager at MonkeyLeague, commented: “Partnering with champions like AC Milan, an absolutely iconic club throughout football history, is another indication of what we’re building and where we’re going as a game and as a game studio. It’s also an important step in our plans to bridge the Web2 and Web3 worlds.”
Crypto and NFT partnerships like this are nothing new in the world of sports, and certainly not new for the Italian club. Just last year, Milan signed a sponsorship deal with cryptocurrency exchange BitMEX.
At the time of writing, Bitcoin is hovering around $19,000, down 1% over the past seven days. Over the past month, the crypto has lost 11 percent of its value.
