Kraken is proud to announce that it has become a member of the Anti-Human Trafficking Intelligence Initiative (ATII), a US-based non-profit organization that uses intelligence to help financial institutions, technology companies and cryptocurrency exchanges fight human trafficking and child abuse.
“Kraken’s partnership with ATII provides us with actionable information about illicit use of the dark web so that our compliance team can better detect and respond to potential criminal activity,” said Ian Mynot, Director of Kraken’s Money Laundering Intelligence Center. “Kraken’s mission has been to accelerate the adoption of digital assets globally by providing customers with a safe and secure route to access with confidence and trust. Cryptocurrencies have never been a safe haven for criminals, and with this partnership we are taking a proactive step to ensure that digital assets sold on Kraken are not used for human trafficking.” and promoting child abuse.
“The Anti-Human Trafficking Intelligence Initiative is honored to have Krake as an official sponsor and corporate partner in the fight against modern slavery,” said Aaron Kahler, Founder and CEO of ATII. “ATII is grateful to leverage Kraken’s expertise and industry relationships in the crypto and financial worlds in our efforts to disrupt the operations, economics and anonymity of human trafficking at its source.”
There is evaluated 40.3 million victims of modern slavery around the world, the majority of whom are women and girls. One in four people children forced into slavery.
ATII focuses exclusively on identifying the proceeds of human trafficking, tracing them through the financial system and notifying the relevant parties so that they can take action. By working with several partners, ATII hopes to end human trafficking once and for all. Kraken’s donation enables ATII to provide financial institutions with the training and tools needed to prevent the use of digital assets in human trafficking.
In cooperation with ATII, we advance our Mission to create an inclusive, transparent and reliable financial system by introducing cryptocurrencies. In addition to the $100,000 donation, we will use our shared expertise in investigations and blockchain technology to help ATII strengthen its digital financial crime prevention efforts and strengthen Kraken’s proactive investigation strategy.
Kraken’s partnership with ATII demonstrates our continued commitment to high-level corporate social responsibility and highlights how Kraken’s platform is not off limits to bad actors. We hope this inspires other crypto companies to follow our lead.
