The Danish artist group Kvetny&Velasco has chosen the energy-efficient Tezos (XTZ) blockchain for their new interactive art installation called CryptoPong Participate 2022. The team says the art installation is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Pong, one of the world’s oldest computer games.
The Kvetny&Velasco group of artists has implemented the energy-efficient proof-of-stake (PoS) blockchain network Tezos (XTZ) its “CryptoPong Participate 2022” interactive art installation and exhibition at Nikolaj Kunsthal (DK).
According to the team CryptoPong participate the installation is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Pong, one of the earliest computer games. For many, the game of Pong symbolizes the beginning of the digital age, and its importance is well reflected in the installation of CryptoPong Participate.
The team says CryptoPong Participate 2022 explores a new aspect of consumption and digital behavior – transaction transparency, NFT collectibles, gamification, and how people relate to a new reality that connects the physical and virtual worlds with established digital assets.
For the exhibition, the Kvetny&Velasco artist group plans to strike 50 unique pieces CryptoPong participate NFTs for installing the Tezos blockchain. NFTs will be transferred to participants who physically find the same artwork on a ping pong ball during the Nikolaj Kunsthal art installation event.
The group explained:
“Each NFT has a unique artwork by the Danish artist Ida Kvetny. The participant can then choose whether to keep the physical or virtual version of the work. If a person chooses to receive an NFT, they will deliver the ping pong ball to the show venue and receive further instructions. The artists behind the installation, Radar Contemporary or Nikolaj Kunsthal, are not responsible for anything related to the blockchain or technical aspects of NFT.
They further implied that CryptoPong Participate the installation also shows some film installations from the 1960s that focus on behavior and consumption. Featured works include Valie Export’s iconic work, Ping Pong from 1968, and Agnes Varda’s work PingPong, Tong, e Camping from 2006.
What is important is that all interested participants can witness the event CryptoPong Participate installation at Nikolaj Kunsthal Upper Gallery 16.9.2022–22.1.2023.
After the successful conclusion of the exhibition, the team says they plan to donate the remaining NFTs and ping-pong balls to the artist-run Nordic Museum of Digital Art, MoNDA.
The team further stated:
“The goal is to organize several CryptoPong Participate matches and at the same time ensure that the installation is displayed in art venues in different countries. The CryptoPong Participate installation is part of a larger exhibition (also called CryptoPong) that deals with art curated by Radar Contemporary on the blockchain.
The Tezos (XTZ) blockchain was launched in June 2018 and has enjoyed significant adoption among various players due to its energy efficiency, cost-effective transactions, and speed. At the time of writing, XTZ, the native crypto of the Tezos ecosystem, is trading at around $1.51.
