OneCoin Cryptoqueen’s ex-boyfriend, Sebastian Greenwood, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his involvement with the fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme. Greenwood was accused of helping to launder millions of dollars of investor money for the OneCoin scam.
The OneCoin scam was one of the largest cryptocurrency frauds in history. It was founded by Ruja Ignatova, also known as the “Cryptoqueen”, who promised investors massive returns from her cryptocurrency. However, the coin was never actually listed on a public exchange, and the investors’ money was instead used to fund extravagant lifestyles of the OneCoin founders, including Ignatova and Greenwood.
Greenwood was arrested in 2019 and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering in 2020. He was also ordered to pay $1.8 million in restitution to the victims of the OneCoin scam.
At his sentencing hearing, Greenwood apologized for his actions and said he “made a mistake”. He also said he was “ashamed and embarrassed” by his role in the scheme.
Despite the five-year sentence, Greenwood may not serve the full term. He has already served two years in prison and may be eligible for early release.
Greenwood’s sentencing is the latest development in the ongoing saga of the OneCoin scam. Ignatova is still at large, and investigators are still trying to locate the funds that were taken from investors.
The OneCoin scam serves as a reminder of the importance of due diligence when investing in cryptocurrencies. Investors should always research the project they are investing in and make sure they are dealing with legitimate companies and individuals.
