Starbucks Rolls Out Web3-Based Loyalty Program Odyssey

The coffee giant expands its loyalty program to Web3.

Starbucks, the world’s largest coffee shop chain with about 34 thousand stores worldwide, is launches a Web3-based loyalty program called Starbucks Odyssey.

By ad Starbucks will share on September 12th Starbucks Rewards members and its employees can earn or purchase digital collectibles that help them unlock “new benefits and immersive coffee experiences.”

The company notes the matter users who already have their Starbucks Rewards account can access Starbucks Odyssey with their existing credentials.

Members must earn free digital collectible tokens participate in Starbucks trips, such as playing games or taking on Starbucks or coffee-related challenges. After completing the tasks, the members receives a digital collectible “travel stamp” in the form of an NFT.

However, if members want to own more valuable NFTsthey can buy them through the built-in marketplace with credit cards. In its announcement, Starbucks emphasized that “no crypto wallet or cryptocurrency is required” to make purchases on the marketplace.

Collectibles are coming they have their own blockchain ownership verification, so each NFT has its own point value. The rarer the stamp, the higher its point value. Therefore, as with most loyalty programs, collecting collectibles and their points gives program members the opportunity to receive “unique benefits and experiences.”

The company gives a few examples of what Starbuck Odyssey members can expect as a reward for their efforts.

These experiences can range from a virtual espresso martini-making class to access to unique products and artist collaborations, invitations to exclusive events at Starbucks Reserve Roasteries, or even trips to the Starbucks Hacienda Alsacia coffee farm in Costa Rica.

It is worth noting that in early August, Starbucks CEO Howard Schult teased Web3-based rewards program, now known as Odyssey.
